The incident occurred around 1:30 PM at the taxi stand next to Kocaeli State Hospital on Turan Güneş Street in the Cedit neighborhood. Erdem Mucır, who came to the taxi stand where he had previously worked, argued with the staff there. Afterward, Mucır pulled out his gun and fired into the air. A ricochet bullet hit Mucır's shoulder, causing the staff at the stand to panic and flee outside.

Upon notification, police special operations and medical teams were dispatched to the area. The police set up a security cordon, closing the street to vehicle traffic and not allowing pedestrian access. Mucır, who also injured himself with the knife in his hand, did not surrender after prolonged negotiations.
