Last night, a bizarre incident occurred in the Beşiktaş district of Istanbul. Özay Yıldız, who went out to sea with his friends to fish, noticed a fox struggling on the water's surface as they cast their lines. JUMPING INTO THE WATER TO SAVE THE FOXYıldız immediately informed his friends about the situation and, without hesitation, jumped into the water to rescue the fox and brought it onto the boat. Later, Yıldız contacted the teams from the General Directorate of Nature Conservation and National Parks and handed the fox over to the authorities. The teams took the fox from Yıldız to start the rehabilitation process. "THE ANIMAL WAS BEGGING 'SAVE ME'"Özay Yıldız, who stated that he rescued the animal from the sea by his own means, said: "This animal probably fell into the water while being chased by dogs in the Beykoz or Sarıyer area. We were fishing with friends. At that moment, we saw something in the water. I looked and said, 'That's a fox.' The animal was trying to swim, practically begging 'save me.' "AT FIRST, WE THOUGHT IT WAS A DOG"At first, we thought it was a dog. More precisely, we thought it was a otter. Since the animal was about two meters away from us... It was dark at 4:00 AM. So it looked a bit blurry. In the end, when I called the animal, it came right up to us. At 4:00 AM, we couldn't reach anyone. I mostly helped lift the animal up with a shovel to prevent it from swallowing water. Since it was a wild animal, my friends were hesitant to approach it for fear of being bitten. I thought, whatever happens, it will probably bite me once. I grabbed the animal by the scruff of its neck and pulled it up. The animal was already quite cold and had swallowed water. This animal probably stayed in the water for 2-3 hours."
