HTS leader Colani stated in his first remarks upon entering Damascus that the Assad regime is sustained by drug trafficking. A drug factory belonging to the Assad regime, captured by the opposition, has been documented.
After the fall of the regime in Syria, the billions of dollars and assets that Assad took with him became a topic of discussion. Images of the drug production facility, which is the largest source of income for the Assad family, were published.
OPPOSITION CAPTURED THE DRUG FACTORY
The factory, which is seen to be established in a quite large area, contains production equipment, raw materials, and warehouses. Footage recorded by a Syrian opposition soldier with his mobile phone revealed that a large quantity of drugs was seized. This facility is known to be the largest source of income for the Assad family.
ASSAD'S BROTHER WAS IN CHARGE OF THE DRUG TRADE
After Bashar Assad's escape from Syria, it was expected that drug production in the country would also come to a halt. HTS Leader Jolani stated in his first remarks upon entering Damascus that the Assad regime was sustained by drug trafficking. Syria was generating at least $5 billion annually from drug trafficking. The drug trade was the most important source of income for groups affiliated with the Assad regime. The 4th Division, led by Assad's brother, was described as the headquarters of drug trafficking. Assad's two cousins were also at the forefront of the trade and had been targeted by sanctions for some time.
THE U.S. HAD IMPOSED SANCTIONS ON ASSAD'S COUSINS
The U.S. administration had placed six individuals, including two of Assad's cousins, on the sanctions list last year for their roles in the production and export of "Captagon," a type of synthetic drug. It was emphasized in the statement that the Captagon trade had turned into a billion-dollar illegal enterprise, and it was noted that the Assad family's dominance in Captagon smuggling provided financing for the Syrian regime.
