34 SOLDIERS KIDNAPPED

Conflicts continue between the army and the "Estado Mayor Central (EMC)", the largest faction of the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC). Colombian Defense Minister Pedro Sanchez stated that 11 rebels, including one of the commanders of the EMC, were neutralized in clashes that broke out in the rural area of El Retorno in Guaviare province.

Sanchez announced that at least 34 soldiers who evacuated the area after the clashes were kidnapped by armed civilians, stating, "This is an illegal and criminal act carried out by these individuals in civilian clothing. This is a kidnapping."

The EMC, which finances illegal activities such as drug trafficking and illegal mining, rejects the peace agreement made between FARC and the Colombian government in 2016.

In a bombing attack carried out by the EMC near a military airbase in Cali, Colombia, on August 22, 6 people were killed, and 71 were injured. In a drone attack on a police helicopter in the Antioquia region, 12 police officers were killed.
