At least 9 people lost their lives and many others were injured after a sleeper bus caught fire following a collision with a truck in the southwestern Indian state of Karnataka. Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed deep sorrow over the loss of life in a statement made after the accident.
In the state of Karnataka, India, according to initial reports, 9 people lost their lives and 21 others were injured as a result of a collision between a truck and a sleeper passenger bus.
TRUCK CROSSED THE MEDIAN AND HIT THE BUS
Authorities stated that at the time of the accident, the truck crossed the median and collided with the sleeper passenger bus coming from the opposite direction. The bus caught fire shortly after the impact. In the accident, most passengers were trapped inside the bus, while some escaped by jumping out of the vehicle's windows in panic.
FIRE INCREASED CASUALTIES
Police and rescue teams announced that 9 people lost their lives due to the fire that broke out in the bus immediately after the collision, and 21 others were injured and taken to hospitals.
It was reported that the injured are receiving treatment.
