On November 21, 2021, a chilling murder was committed in Dursunlar village, located in the Çaycuma district of Zonguldak. The body of Mustafa Keleş (70), whose head was severed with an axe, was found the next day in a pit in the forest. In the investigation launched regarding the murder, gendarmerie teams searched for the axe used in the murder in the forest and in the septic tank of the victim's brother, İbrahim Keleş (65), using underground thermal and magnetic imaging devices, but they could not find any results. İbrahim Keleş and 11 others, who were referred to the courthouse in May of last year, were released. LEFT A NOTE TO MISLEADWhile the investigation was ongoing, notes signed by Sedat A. were found, containing the names of about 15 individuals and statements such as "I killed Mustafa Keleş with an axe in a brutal manner." It was determined that the notes were left at the gendarmerie station to mislead the investigation. İbrahim Keleş, identified as the writer of the notes, was arrested. ARRESTED BROTHER RELEASEDRegarding the murder, İbrahim Keleş and his wife F.K., along with Cihan T. (47), Ender T. (34), İlyas A. (54), Mevlüt T. (51), Sedat A. (42), Serkan T. (24), and Soner T. (42) from the village, were charged with "deliberate killing with monstrous feelings and torture," facing aggravated life imprisonment. In the first hearing, İbrahim Keleş was released due to the health and evidence situation in the case file. No defendants remained in custody, and the judicial control conditions for the defendants were also lifted. "INSTIGATING AUNT"The final hearing of the case was held at the Zonguldak 1st Heavy Penal Court. The hearing was attended by Mevlüt T., who was not in custody, and the children of the murdered Mustafa Keleş. The prosecutor, presenting his opinion, claimed that F.K., the aunt of Mustafa Keleş, instigated the murder and requested that she be sentenced to aggravated life imprisonment. For the other 8 defendants who were not in custody, he requested that they be separately sentenced to aggravated life imprisonment for "deliberate killing with monstrous feelings or torture." "I HAVE NO CONNECTION TO THE INCIDENT"One of the defendants, Mevlüt T., stated, "I have no connection to the incident whatsoever. I request my acquittal." The defense attorneys for the defendants requested additional time to prepare their defense against the prosecutor's opinion. The children of Mustafa Keleş expressed that they wanted the defendants to be punished as severely as possible, while the court panel postponed the hearing, granting the defense attorneys additional time to prepare their defenses.
