A new development has occurred in the investigation regarding the issuance of fraudulent driver's licenses and educational certificates using fake identities belonging to public officials to obtain electronic signatures.
MANY PEOPLE HAVE BEEN ARRESTED
Out of 92 suspects detained within the scope of the investigation, 23 have been arrested. 69 of those detained were released under judicial control. The hearing has been postponed to January 16, 2026.
On the other hand, the Ankara 23rd Criminal Court of First Instance had ruled for the release of five defendants who were arrested in the investigation, considering the duration of their detention.
WHAT HAD HAPPENED?
Reports about the production of driver's licenses and diplomas with fake electronic signatures had made headlines in Turkey in recent months. In the investigation conducted by the Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, actions were taken against 220 individuals, and a public lawsuit was filed against 199 suspects.
It was claimed that some academics had received fake diplomas; however, it was stated that none of the academics or teachers from the Ministry of National Education working in Turkey were among these individuals.
PRISON SENTENCES OF 5 TO 50 YEARS
Two separate indictments had been prepared regarding the allegations. In the first indictment, for 134 defendants, a prison sentence of 6 to 45 years was requested for the charges of violating the ÖSYM Law, forgery of official documents, unauthorized access to information systems, and unlawfully obtaining data.
In the second indictment, for 65 defendants, prison sentences ranging from 5 to 50 years were sought for the same offenses. The prepared indictments were accepted by the Ankara 23rd Criminal Court of First Instance.
