As the ceasefire between Israel and Hamas officially began at 12:00, Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu made a notable statement. Despite images being released showing the Israeli army withdrawing and Gazans returning to their homes, Netanyahu stated, "The war is not over yet."
While Israel and Hamas reached an agreement on the first phase of the Gaza Plan, significant developments occurred today following the ceasefire agreement signed in Egypt.
NETANYAHU: WE WILL NOT WITHDRAW WITHOUT DISARMING HAMAS
As the Israeli army began to withdraw from Gaza, thousands of Palestinians hit the roads to return to their homes. However, the messages from Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu confused many. Netanyahu stated, "The war is not over yet. Gaza will be disarmed, whether through an easy or a hard way. We will not withdraw from Gaza without Hamas completely disarming."
TRUMP: ALL HOSTAGES WILL BE RELEASED
U.S. President Donald Trump announced last week that both Israel and Hamas accepted the first phase of his 20-point peace plan for Palestine-Israel. Trump shared the development on social media, stating, "All hostages will be released very soon, and Israeli soldiers will withdraw from the agreed line as the first step."
ISRAELI ARMY IS WITHDRAWING
The Israeli government also announced that it approved the first phase of the plan. Following the cabinet's approval, the ceasefire came into effect. Israeli media reported that partial withdrawal began after the ceasefire was approved.
CEASEFIRE HAS STARTED, PALESTINIANS ARE RETURNING
In a statement from the Israeli Army Radio, it was announced that the ceasefire began at 12:00. After the ceasefire started, Palestinians began to return to the city of Gaza. It was announced that 11 Hamas members and 11 Fatah members would be released as part of the agreement.
WHAT WILL HAPPEN IN THE FIRST PHASE?
According to a report by the British broadcaster BBC, the Israeli army will withdraw to a line that will control approximately 53% of the Gaza Strip. According to the map shared by the White House last week, this constitutes the first step of a three-phase withdrawal plan.
After the withdrawal, a 72-hour process will begin, during which 20 live hostages held by Hamas will be released. The return of the remains of 28 hostages will take place at a later stage.
It was reported that Israel will also release 250 Palestinian prisoners who have received life sentences and 1,700 detainees from Gaza. The list provided by Hamas includes many prominent names. According to Trump's plan, for each Israeli hostage's remains, the remains of 15 Gazans will be handed over.
HUMANITARIAN AID AND MONITORING MECHANISM
Hundreds of trucks carrying food and medical aid will be allowed to enter the region every day. While Trump's plan states this number as 600 trucks per day, Palestinian sources say that it will start with 400 trucks and the number will gradually increase. To monitor the ceasefire, a multinational force of about 200 people will be formed under U.S. supervision. It is expected that Egypt, Qatar, Turkey, and the United Arab Emirates will be part of this force. It was also announced that U.S. troops will not be stationed in Gaza.
