A striking development occurred during the trial of 47 defendants accused of transferring emergency infant patients to private hospitals' neonatal units in Istanbul, which led to their deaths. A trustee was appointed to 8 private hospitals that were closed as part of the investigation.

The trial of 47 defendants, who are alleged to have caused the deaths of emergency infant patients by transferring them to private hospitals with which they had previously agreed and profiting unfairly, continues on its 10th day.

The hearing, held in the courthouse's conference hall by the Bakırköy 22nd High Criminal Court, was attended by 22 detained defendants, including Fırat Sarı, who is claimed to be the leader of an organized crime group, as well as some defendants who are not in custody and the lawyers of the parties.

STRIKING DEVELOPMENT IN THE TRIAL CONTINUING FOR 10 DAYS

Intense security measures were taken by police teams in the hall where the hearing, followed by numerous press members, was held. A striking development occurred today in the hearing that started on November 18, where 40 defendants, 22 of whom are detained, presented their defenses.

EMRULLAH ERDİNÇ ANNOUNCED THE DEVELOPMENT

Journalist Emrullah Erdinç announced that trustees were appointed to the private hospitals that were closed as part of the investigation. Erdinç made the following post on his social media account: "MASAK has started examining the accounts of the healthcare institutions mentioned in the investigation. It has been reported that the operating licenses of the hospitals belonging to the private healthcare service providers mentioned in the investigation have been revoked by the Ministry of Health, and therefore, the activities of the hospitals have been terminated, and the patients inside have been transferred to other hospitals. There is a risk of deterioration of materials used in medical treatment, such as medicines belonging to the hospitals, and for these reasons, there is a risk of both public loss and citizen grievances. To prevent all these negative situations, it is necessary to ensure that the mentioned hospitals can only be reactivated through the appointment of a trustee as regulated in Article 133 of the Criminal Procedure Code, meaning they will be managed by the State.

In this context, a request for the appointment of a trustee for Company Management was made to the Peace Criminal Court, which was accepted on November 27, 2024, from the Büyükçekmece 1st Peace Criminal Court.
