The Turkish Statistical Institute has announced the inflation data for August, which closely concerns millions of citizens. Accordingly, inflation increased by 2.04% in August, while the annual rate reached 32.95%.

In August, there was an increase of 2.04% compared to the previous month, an increase of 21.50% compared to December of the previous year, an increase of 32.95% compared to the same month of the previous year, and an increase of 39.62% according to twelve-month averages.
THE CPI INCREASED BY 33.28% IN FOOD AND NON-ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGES
The annual changes in the three main expenditure groups with the highest weight were as follows: a 33.28% increase in food and non-alcoholic beverages, a 24.86% increase in transportation, and a 53.27% increase in housing. The effects of the relevant main groups on the annual change were 7.97% for food and non-alcoholic beverages, 4.10% for transportation, and 8.12% for housing.
THE CPI INCREASED BY 2.66% IN HOUSING
The monthly changes in the three main expenditure groups with the highest weight were as follows: a 3.02% increase in food and non-alcoholic beverages, a 1.55% increase in transportation, and a 2.66% increase in housing. The effects of the relevant main groups on the monthly change were 0.72% for food and non-alcoholic beverages, 0.24% for transportation, and 0.46% for housing.
AN INCREASE WAS OBSERVED IN THE INDEX OF 119 MAIN HEADINGS
As of August 2025, among the 143 main headings covered in the index (Classification of Individual Consumption by Purpose - COICOP 5-digit Level), there was a decrease in the index of 20 main headings, while there was no change in the index of 4 main headings. An increase was observed in the index of 119 main headings.
Excluding unprocessed food products, energy, alcoholic beverages, tobacco, and gold, the change in the CPI in August 2025 was an increase of 2.07% compared to the previous month, an increase of 21.87% compared to December of the previous year, an increase of 32.71% compared to the same month of the previous year, and an increase of 39.07% according to twelve-month averages.
