In the Sevinçler neighborhood of the Demirci district in Manisa, "indifferent relatives" who arrive late to weddings, do not help with food distribution, and do not dance at the wedding are punished by being thrown into water-filled troughs. The neighborhood headman stated, "This tradition has been ongoing for a long time. Individuals are identified the night before. In the morning, during the serving of the trays, these relatives are thrown into the water troughs by our young people."

According to the tradition maintained in the Sevinçler Neighborhood of the Demirci district in Manisa, during wedding ceremonies, the residents of the neighborhood open the Turkish flag and play drums and zurna while visiting the groom's relatives at their homes.
"SINI ÇIKARMA" TRADITION IS BEING MAINTAINED
In the tradition called "sini çıkarma," citizens who are to prepare trays with gifts for the couple getting married collect the trays and call the homeowner outside with local folk songs and sayings. Some of the neighborhood youth paint their faces black and dance in front of the drums and zurna. The homeowner hands over the tray, which contains food, clothing, and various gifts, to the village youth for the couple getting married.
"UNINTERESTED RELATIVES" ARE IDENTIFIED AND THROWN INTO THE TROUGH
If a gift tray is not prepared or if it is seen that sufficient care has not been taken with the tray, the neighborhood youth, with the determination of the muhtar, impose a penalty on the relative. Not dancing during the wedding, not helping with food distribution, and arriving late to the wedding also require penalties. The most common penalty is that those found lacking are thrown into a water-filled trough. After being embraced and thrown into the trough by the neighborhood residents, the "uninterested relative" adds color to the weddings by dancing to the music of drums and zurna.
"WE ARE KEEPING THE TRADITION WE INHERITED FROM OUR ANCESTORS"
Sevinçler Neighborhood Muhtar Halil Yetiş stated that they have been maintaining the tradition for many years. Expressing that the groom's relatives are visited, Yetiş said:
"In our neighborhood, there has been a tradition of 'sini çıkarma' at weddings for years. This tradition has continued since ancient times. We are keeping the tradition we inherited from our ancestors alive. Those who do not bring out the tray, do not dance, do not carry food, and do not come to the entertainment are identified the night before. On Sunday morning, these relatives are thrown into the water-filled trough by our youth during the tray ceremony. The collected trays are taken to the groom's house. They are served to our youth and guests attending the wedding. The tray and the gift items are the wedding gifts for the bride and groom."
