A woman who was forgotten in an MRI machine for an hour at İzmir Tire State Hospital experienced a great nightmare, while the İzmir Provincial Health Directorate launched an investigation into the highly publicized incident. The hospital management terminated the employment contract of the responsible staff member.
Esra Akgüneş, a mother of three living in Izmir, applied to the Neurology Outpatient Clinic at Tire State Hospital yesterday with complaints of dizziness. After the doctor's examination, Akgüneş was given an MRI appointment for the same day. At 11:45, Akgüneş was taken into the machine, and the staff informed her that the procedure would take 10-15 minutes. However, despite a long time passing, Akgüneş remained inside the machine.
SCREAMED AND STARTED TO PUNCH THE MACHINE
Feeling unwell in the machine, Akgüneş panicked when she realized she had been forgotten and began to scream and punch the machine to make her voice heard. When no one came, Akgüneş managed to get out of the machine by her own means. After leaving the MRI room, Akgüneş explained the situation to a secretary she encountered by chance, who replied, "Get well soon, report the situation to the chief physician."
FILED A COMPLAINT
Following this, Akgüneş called the 184 Ministry of Health Communication Center to file a complaint and then went to the hospital's Chief Physician's office to report the incident. After the officials at the Chief Physician's office said they would "look into the matter," Akgüneş was sent home.
"WHAT IF I HAD A HEART ATTACK AND DIED?"
Unable to overcome the trauma she experienced, Esra Akgüneş stated that she would not let this negligence go and said: "I came with complaints of vertigo, and I stayed in the place they said would take 15 minutes for nearly an hour. My eyes were closed because my head was spinning. When I realized I had been forgotten, I was horrified. What if I had a heart attack from panic and died there? Who would be held accountable for this at Tire State Hospital? This is irresponsibility. I will pursue my rights to the end to find those responsible, and I am filing a complaint."
EMPLOYEE'S CONTRACT TERMINATED
It was reported that an investigation has been initiated regarding the incident of a patient being forgotten in the Magnetic Resonance (MRI) machine at Tire State Hospital. The Izmir Provincial Health Directorate stated that a patient who underwent an MRI at Tire State Hospital filed a complaint with the hospital management after being forgotten in the machine by the responsible service procurement personnel. Following the hospital management's notification to the Provincial Health Directorate, an administrative investigation was initiated, and the service procurement employee's contract was terminated.
