During a time when billions of dollars are flowing into Bitcoin ETFs and the U.S. government is planning to establish cryptocurrency reserves, the identity of Bitcoin's creator, Satoshi Nakamoto, has been brought to court. Cryptocurrency lawyer Murphy is seeking the disclosure of confidential information regarding the creators of Bitcoin from the federal government.
James Murphy, known as "MetaLawMan" on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), has filed a lawsuit against the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) in the U.S. District Court for the Carolina District. Murphy seeks access to documents related to an interview in which DHS official Rana Saoud stated in 2019 that he knew the identity of Satoshi Nakamoto, citing that his requests under the Freedom of Information Act have gone unanswered.
Lawsuit Filed Over Satoshi as U.S. Government Establishes Bitcoin Reserve
The U.S. Department of Homeland Security has been legally processed to uncover the identity of Bitcoin's mysterious creator, Satoshi Nakamoto.
In the lawsuit filed in the U.S. District Court for the Carolina District, crypto lawyer James A. Murphy requested documents regarding Nakamoto's identity.
According to Murphy, DHS official Rana Saoud stated in an interview in 2019 that he knew Nakamoto's real name and identity.
According to Saoud's statement, DHS officials had met with a total of four people related to the creation of Bitcoin when they arrived in California. These individuals explained how Bitcoin works and why they created it.
Murphy emphasized the importance of this information due to the billions of dollars transferred to spot Bitcoin ETFs last year and the U.S. plans to establish Bitcoin reserves.
Last month, U.S. President Donald Trump signed an executive order to establish a strategic Bitcoin reserve consisting of Bitcoin owned and seized by the U.S. government.
Murphy called on DHS Secretary Kristi Noem to voluntarily disclose this information. "It is entirely possible that the DHS official was mistaken. I will pursue this case to the end to solve this mystery," he said.
