AK Party Deputy Chairman Nihat Zeybekçi stated that the retirement age in Turkey is very low, indicating that this situation poses a risk for future generations. Zeybekçi expressed that the retirement age should be permanently raised through a constitutional amendment.

"SHOULD IT BE DONE? IT SHOULD BE DONE"

In an interview with Ekonomim newspaper, Zeybekçi emphasized that the current system is not sustainable, saying, "The retirement age is very low. We can make a bold statement that this can be considered a 'betrayal' to future generations. There is currently no regulation regarding the retirement age, but should it be done? Yes, it definitely should be done. And it should not be touched again."

"CONSTITUTION" EMPHASIS

Zeybekçi stressed that the regulation regarding the retirement age should be added to the Constitution with a national consensus, independent of political debates, stating, "We need to put some issues in the Constitution with national agreement, setting everything else aside. Once you put these in place, no one will come and touch the retirement age again."

"THE FIRST THING SHOULD NOT BE RETIREMENT"

Continuing his remarks, Zeybekçi noted that politics should stay away from populist approaches, saying, "Whenever politics becomes helpless and incompetent, in our terms, 'the Yörük should not start making sacrifices from his herd.' The first thing we touch should not be retirement."
