With the sources coming from Kaz Mountains, the Bayramiç Dam's water gushed out from between the stones and roads in the village of Pınarbaşı, located in the Bayramiç district of Çanakkale, as the water level reached 100% after the recent rains.
THE DAMS OVERFLOWED
Due to the global drought, the water level in the Bayramiç Dam fell to 10% in 2024 and to 12% in 2025. With the effective rains starting from the end of December continuing into the first days of January and February, the dam's fullness rapidly increased.
GROUNDWATER CAME TO THE SURFACE
In Pınarbaşı village, one of the regions where rainfall was most intense, after the dam level reached 100%, groundwater surfaced in many places, and puddles formed on some roads.
SUCH A SITUATION HASN'T BEEN EXPERIENCED FOR MANY YEARS
Ali Erol, 79, a village resident, told AA reporter that they experienced a similar situation due to heavy rainfall many years ago.
Erol, stating that there was no water left in the dam due to drought and that they could not receive rainfall, said:
"I was born and raised here. There have been such rains before. The stream passes under our village. Everything was flooded. We have been suffering from drought for a long time. Now water is gushing out from the stones and soil. We are very happy that our water has increased."
İbrahim Çobanoğlu, 72, also expressed that there has been serious drought in the village for the last 2 years, saying, "Recently, the rains have really increased a lot. We have seen water coming out even from inside the houses and workplaces."
