On the third anniversary of the February 6 earthquakes, the "holiday" post made regarding the visit to Osmaniye sparked reactions, while CHP member Asu Kaya harshly criticized Mayor İbrahim Çenet.
"TODAY IS YOUR HOLIDAY, OSMANIYE"
Due to the third anniversary of the February 6 earthquakes, President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and MHP Chairman Devlet Bahçeli visited Osmaniye. Prior to the visit, the post made by Osmaniye Mayor İbrahim Çenet on his social media account was met with public backlash. In his post, Çenet stated, "Today is your holiday, Osmaniye; wear your holiday clothes and come."
HARSH CRITICISM FROM CHP'S ASU KAYA
Asu Kaya, the Chair of the CHP Women's Branch, criticized the post with harsh words. Kaya reminded that 1010 people lost their lives in Osmaniye on February 6, stating that a call made on such a day is unacceptable. In her statement, Asu Kaya said, "Imagine a mayor. The mayor of a city that lost 1010 of its citizens on February 6. Thousands of injured, a city in ruins, a mourning that still hasn't ceased. On the anniversary of this indescribable pain, just because the leaders of the People's Alliance are coming, he can say 'Today is your holiday, Osmaniye.' This is not a gaffe, this is not thoughtlessness, this is outright heartlessness."
"THIS CITY IS STILL IN MOURNING"
Kaya emphasized that Osmaniye is still in mourning, stating, "This city is not in a holiday mood. Mothers are without their children, children are orphans, cemeteries are full. Be ashamed of this mentality that turns the anniversary of pain into a show and mourning into propaganda." Kaya said that the city's need is not for a holiday, but for "justice, responsibility, and conscience."
POST DELETED
Following the reactions, Mayor İbrahim Çenet removed the post from his social media account.
