42-year-old Emma Horne faced an unexpected theft incident last month while working at a hair salon in Warrington, England. A man holding a newspaper entered and said he wanted a haircut. When Emma explained that she didn't cut men's hair, the man said it was actually for his wife.
At that moment, Emma went behind the counter to get the price list brochure. Just then, the man targeted the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra phone worth approximately 56,000 TL (£1,300) that was sitting on the salon's table.
In the footage captured by the security camera, the man is seen skillfully covering the phone with the newspaper and then slowly sliding it underneath to grab the phone. While the other staff and customers in the salon were unaware, the man quickly left with the phone after handing the brochure to Emma.
Emma realized her phone was missing within a few minutes. She immediately went outside with a customer, but the thief had already disappeared. When they reviewed the salon's security cameras, they saw that everything had been recorded.
The incident was reported to Cheshire Police, and the investigation is still ongoing.
Emma said the following about the incident:
"It happened so fast; he was only in the salon for a few minutes. I went behind the counter to get the price list, and at that moment, he put the newspaper over my phone and stole it. It happened right in front of me, and it made me very upset and angry."
Emma, who mentioned that she had purchased her phone only 8 months ago and had just completed the payment, panicked and immediately went to her bank to freeze all her cards. This move prevented her money from being stolen but also made her unable to access her own accounts.
"All my work schedule and information were on that phone. Everything disappeared in an instant," Emma added, noting that the thief looked directly at the security cameras, indicating that he knew there were cameras.
Emma stated that she would now be more cautious with potential customers after the incident:
"We usually greet everyone with a smile; we are a friendly salon. But incidents like this make people uneasy. Even though we have cameras, they can still come in and do this. There have been people who saw him waiting outside, so he must have been watching me and noticed that I put my phone on the table."
Cheshire Police made the following statement regarding the incident:
"We received a report of a phone theft from a hair salon on Time Square, Warrington, at 11:38 AM on Tuesday, June 24.
