Ekrem İmamoğlu, who was detained as part of a corruption investigation against the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality, has been released under judicial control, according to his lawyer Nusret Yılmaz. It has been reported that in Yılmaz's statement to the prosecutor's office, he said, "I believe that I should be heard as a witness at most, not as a suspect. If there are any accusations against me, I absolutely reject them."
According to the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, the investigation continues regarding suspects, including Ekrem İmamoğlu, who was suspended from his position as the Mayor of Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM) following his arrest, on charges of "being a leader of a criminal organization," "being a member of a criminal organization," "bribery," "corruption," "qualified fraud," "illegally obtaining personal data," and "interfering with a tender."
JUDICIAL CONTROL FOR IMAMOĞLU'S LAWYER
As part of the investigation, the statement of İmamoğlu's lawyer, Nusret Yılmaz, who was detained on charges of "facilitating bribery," has been completed at the prosecutor's office. Suspect Yılmaz has been referred to the peace criminal court with a request for judicial control, which includes a ban on signing and leaving the country. The court decided to impose judicial control conditions on the suspect as requested.
PROSECUTOR'S STATEMENT REVEALED
On the other hand, Yılmaz's statement given at the prosecutor's office has been obtained. In his statement, Yılmaz denied the allegations of facilitating bribery, stating that he has been a legal professional for approximately 32 years, including his profession as a judge, and that he has made an effort to avoid any actions that would embarrass him until today.
Yılmaz stated that he approaches the entire matter with a legal sensitivity, saying, "I believe that all documents and information related to material matters concerning both myself and my family can be accessed. Until this age, I have not been involved in any unjust gain. Regarding the questions directed at me, I believe that I should be heard as a witness at most, not as a suspect. If there is any accusation against me, I absolutely reject it."
