According to Russian Deputy President Yuri Ushakov, President Recep Tayyip Erdogan will attend the BRICS (Brazil-Russia-India-China-South Africa) Summit, which will be held in the city of Kazan, Tatarstan, an autonomous republic within Russia, on October 22-24.
Speaking to the Russian media about the 16th summit hosted by Russia, Ushakov said, "The proposal was conveyed to the Turkish side and Erdogan accepted." President Erdogan attended the 10th BRICS Summit in Johannesburg, South Africa, in 2018 as an "invited leader."
DID TURKEY APPLY FOR BRICS?
US-based Bloomberg claimed yesterday that Turkey applied for membership in BRICS months ago.
Subsequently, the news was also reported in the Russian media, and the official press account of BRICS on social media platform X included the statement "Turkey officially applied to BRICS."
Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov responded to questions about the allegations that Turkey applied to BRICS by saying, "Yes, Turkey is indeed interested in joining BRICS, they have announced this a long time ago."
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has not yet made a statement regarding the allegations that Turkey applied to BRICS.
