In a letter written from Marmara Closed Prison, Ayşe Barım, the manager who is detained in the Gezi Park case, described her serious health issues. Barım stated that she has five different heart diseases and an aneurysm in her brain. She mentioned that she has fainted six times in the last three months, lost 30 kilograms, and that the prison conditions have exacerbated her illnesses.

Manager Ayşe Barım, who has been detained on charges of "aiding an attempt to overthrow the Government of the Republic of Turkey" as part of the investigation into the Gezi Park protests, wrote a letter from Marmara Closed Prison. Barım, while rejecting the accusations against her, stated that her right to life is at risk due to serious health issues.

"I HAVE NOT COMMITTED ANY CRIME"

In her letter dated August 27, 2025, Barım stated that she has been a talent manager for 23 years, has always conducted her profession with integrity, and that the accusations against her are based on a smear campaign organized through social media. "I have been associated with the Gezi Park protests with completely baseless claims that have no evidence. However, I have no connection to these events; I have committed no crime. I am innocent," she said.

"I HAVE BEEN DEPRIVED OF MY FREEDOM AND HEALTH FOR 213 DAYS"

Barım noted that she was initially released under judicial control but was re-arrested following an objection from the prosecutor's office, stating that she has been in prison for 213 days and that her health has rapidly deteriorated during this time.

SEVERE HEALTH ISSUES

Manager Ayşe Barım detailed her health condition in her letter. She mentioned that she has five different heart conditions and an aneurysm in her brain that exceeds 2 centimeters, emphasizing that each of these illnesses carries a risk of sudden death. She expressed that the increasing anxiety disorder and frequent panic attacks she experiences in prison conditions also heighten this risk. She stated that she has fainted six times in the last three months, has lost 30 kilograms rapidly due to unhealthy conditions, and is still continuing to lose weight.

Barım stated that reports obtained from Silivri State Hospital, Istanbul Mehmet Akif Ersoy Chest and Vascular Surgery Hospital, and Başakşehir Çam and Sakura City Hospital reveal that her health issues and the risks posed by prison conditions are significant, and she noted that the Turkish Medical Association's Scientific Committee has also warned about the danger of sudden death.

"MY RIGHT TO LIFE MUST BE PROTECTED"

In her letter, Barım indicated that she could be tried without detention and addressed the public with the following statements: "My only request is the protection of my right to life. If I lose my life in prison while I could be tried without detention, who will be responsible for that? My life should not be taken away by unjust accusations. I want to LIVE without losing my faith in my state and justice."
