The Mayor of Ankara, Mansur Yavaş, reacted to the school principals who applied for cleaning and then withdrew their requests, using striking expressions. Yavaş stated that messages were sent to school principals saying, "Do not ask for anything from the municipality," and added, "We do not provide poisonous food. We provide cleaning materials. YAVAŞ'S REACTION TO SCHOOL PRINCIPALS

Ankara Mayor Mansur Yavaş attended the 27th International Beypazarı Festival. Before the festival, Yavaş visited the Beypazarı Municipality. Here, he met with CHP mayors from Ankara and later made a statement together with the mayors.

"I GUESS THE SCHOOL PRINCIPAL WILL CLEAN IT HIMSELF"

Yavaş stated that 113 out of 271 schools that requested cleaning have withdrawn their requests, saying: "There is no statement from the school principals, but for example, today in Keçiören, while the second floor of a school was cleaned, the authorities came and said, 'Leave this place immediately.' The second floor was cleaned. One floor remained dirty. I guess the school principal will clean it himself. I do not know who called or intervened. Since 2019, we have been fulfilling all requests from the Ministry of National Education and schools immediately. Sometimes when these requests are in large quantities, we say let the requests come through the Provincial National Education, but we never receive any requests. Meanwhile, school principals and parents are heavily complaining about the physical conditions there and want us to repair these places as soon as possible.

Since 2019, we have provided support worth 154 million lira. Generally, these requests are made by the school principals themselves. Now, as the dirtiness in schools and the inability of the Ministry of National Education to provide personnel have been reflected in the media recently, and since the date for the opening of schools is known, if personnel were to be provided, it should have been done before the schools opened. It could not be provided, and when the dirt in schools was shown on television, we immediately intervened and made a call. We said we would provide hygiene materials to schools that wish to, meaning no one is obliged. We also stated that if there are schools that want us to clean, we would contribute to that as well.

"THERE IS NO MEANING IN SEARCHING FOR MALICE OR POLITICAL MOTIVES"

There is no meaning in searching for malice or political motives in this. Because there are little children receiving education there. Their bodies are more sensitive. They need to be cleansed of germs, dirt, and filth. For this purpose, we asked schools that wanted cleaning on the second day to fill out a form, and as a result, we received hygiene requests from 925 schools. So far, we have provided for 232 of them. By the end of this weekend, we will provide for all the remaining ones.

"113 SCHOOL PRINCIPALS WITHDREW"

But there are about 723 schools. If they call and say, 'We do not want it,' the responsibility lies with them, or they can provide it themselves. The number of schools requesting cleaning is 271 as of today. However, out of these, 106 withdrew yesterday, and today 113 said, 'We do not want it.' I guess the school principals will clean it themselves. I do not want to make any further comments. Because no school principal would want those children to come to a dirty school. They should be cleaning there now, as they did not let us do it. So far, we have cleaned 48 schools. 22 of them will be done on Saturday. Today, 26 schools will be completed. As a result, 30,000 little children will go to clean schools. I say may the same happen for the others. If the Ministry of National Education can clean these themselves, they should do it as soon as possible, and we should return to our duties.

"IT REALLY ASTOUNDS PEOPLE"

The obstacles here really astonish people. We are also a public institution. The Ministry of National Education is also a public institution. Of course, we will always support each other. We are already making protocols in many schools at universities. This is not something we have not done until now. However, as I said, we have not received a single letter from the Ministry of National Education regarding cleaning school yards or paving. We are already going based on the requests of school principals.

Now, they have sent a message. I would like to ask the parents of students to please ask the school principal if they encounter a dirty school when they go to school tomorrow.
