MHP Kocaeli Deputy Saffet Sancaklı, during his speech in the budget marathon at the Grand National Assembly of Turkey, stated, "66.7% of Turkey is obese and overweight. To give an example from us, out of our 600 members of parliament, 400 are obese and overweight."
The budget marathon continues in the Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM). Most recently, the 2025 Budget of the Ministry of Youth and Sports was discussed in the TBMM General Assembly. During the discussion, former football player and MHP Kocaeli Deputy Saffet Sancaklı took the floor and addressed the assembly. Sancaklı evaluated the obesity statistics in Turkey.
INCIDENT DETECTION FOR DEPUTIES IN TBMM Sancaklı stated that Turkey is an inactive society and emphasized the need to promote sports and arts from a young age. He mentioned that with the awareness of sports instilled from a young age, Turkey would achieve significant sports successes both domestically and internationally. Sancaklı, who is from the MHP, later used striking expressions directed at the deputies. He stated that 400 of the 600 deputies in the TBMM are obese or overweight.

In a study conducted in 2024, the obesity problem, which is the biggest issue in Turkey but is not discussed because it does not suit our interests and is swept under the rug, was highlighted. In the 2024 study, 32.1% of the population aged 15 and over is obese, and 34.6% is overweight. In other words, 66.7% of Turkey is obese and overweight. To give an example from us, 400 out of 600 of our deputies are obese and overweight.
