Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan stated that Turkey's role regarding Palestine is that of a "mediator," saying, "If an agreement is reached that the Palestinians will also accept, we are ready to fulfill our responsibilities here. Our official stance is this: if a two-state solution is implemented, we are prepared to take on the responsibility of being a de facto guarantor."
The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Hakan Fidan, evaluated the agenda and answered questions during a live broadcast.
CEASEFIRE IN GAZA
Speaking about the ceasefire reached in Gaza, Fidan emphasized that it is not correct to expect 100% trust in Israel, stating that what is important is for the international community to create an awareness that will put the necessary pressure mechanism on Israel and for this to turn into action.
Fidan stated, "We used our sincerity towards them, our support, closeness, and belief in the Palestinian cause to stop this war," and mentioned that Americans have a similar type of relationship with Israelis.
THE ROLE OF TURKEY IN THE PALESTINE ISSUE
Fidan indicated that Turkey's role in the Palestine issue is that of a "mediator," and noted: "Currently, there are some difficulties arising from the ceasefire agreement in the existing area, which we call the early task force. The first few, the first 72 hours were important. There were some operational issues there. Problems arose regarding the exchange of hostages and bodies. Some are being done intentionally, he said. Some are due to technical impossibilities, etc. There is a group formed to solve those issues. They are there to facilitate communication. Friends are taking part there. However, apart from that, there is currently no structured situation with a defined task description and engagement rules."
"IF A TWO-STATE SOLUTION IS IMPLEMENTED, WE ARE READY TO TAKE ON THE RESPONSIBILITY OF BEING A DE FACTO GUARANTOR"
Currently, there is a concept of three institutional mechanisms emerging in (U.S. President Donald) Trump's peace plan: task force, peace council, and stability force. Discussions are ongoing regarding their nature, task definitions, and compositions. When these are implemented... But we say this regarding the guarantee. The authority given to us by our President is this, that is, if an agreement acceptable to the Palestinians emerges as a result of the coordination we have done with both the Ministry of National Defense and intelligence, we are ready to fulfill our responsibilities. The official statement we make is this: if a two-state solution is implemented, we are ready to take on the responsibility of being a de facto guarantor here. Because this is a very important matter. Not every state can take on this responsibility. As long as a state based on the 1967 borders is given to the Palestinians, a structure where everyone is equal and sovereign can emerge.
