Tense moments occurred at the White House ahead of the meeting between U.S. President Donald Trump and Russian leader Vladimir Putin in Budapest. When a journalist asked who chose the location for the meeting, a White House official responded with "Your mother." The response, which drew criticism, resonated widely in the U.S. media.
While the world is focused on the Trump-Putin meeting, a striking dialogue took place at the White House. Following the announcement that U.S. President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin will meet in Budapest in the coming weeks, the question of who determined the meeting location was met with an ugly response.
BOTH NAMES GAVE THE SAME ANSWER
HuffPost reporter asked at the White House press conference, "Who chose the meeting location?" In response, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt replied, "Your mother chose it." According to the news, White House Communications Director Steven Cheung also responded to the same question with "Your mother."
REACTION TO THE QUESTION ASKED
When the reporter asked Leavitt, "Do you think your answer is funny?" Leavitt used the following expressions:
"I find it funny that you see yourself as a newspaper. You are an extremely leftist publication that no one, including your colleagues in the media, takes seriously; they just don't say it to your face. Stop texting me your insincere, biased, and ridiculous questions."
THE HUNGARY SELECTION HAD SPARKED CONTROVERSY
Trump had announced that he would soon meet with Putin in Budapest, Hungary, with the agenda of ending the war in Ukraine. The reason this selection sparked controversy is that there is an arrest warrant for Putin from the International Criminal Court (ICC), but according to the Associated Press, this situation is not expected to pose a barrier due to Hungary's ongoing withdrawal process from the ICC.
