The Istanbul 45th Civil Court requested the suspension of the CHP's Ordinary Provincial Congress, which is scheduled to take place on Sunday. The Supreme Election Council convened at 2:00 PM to discuss the matter. The SEC decided to allow the CHP Istanbul Provincial Congress to proceed.
The Istanbul 45th Civil Court of First Instance requested the suspension of the Republican People's Party's 39th Ordinary Istanbul Provincial Congress elections on October 19, 2025. The written request for the suspension of the ordinary congress was sent to the Istanbul Governorship and the Sarıyer 1st District Election Board Presidency.
In the letter from the Istanbul 45th Civil Court of First Instance, it was stated, "The previously issued precautionary decision for the CHP Istanbul Provincial Congress is contrary to our court decision, as the decision has not been lifted or changed by the Istanbul Regional Court of Appeal, and the elections for the Republican People's Party's 39th Ordinary Istanbul Provincial Congress to be held on October 19, 2025, must be suspended, and necessary precautionary measures must be taken."
THE DISTRICT ELECTION BOARD ASKED YSK
The Sarıyer 1st District Election Board Presidency also brought the issue to the agenda of the Supreme Election Council (YSK), asking for YSK's opinion on whether the CHP's 39th Ordinary Istanbul Provincial Congress elections, scheduled for Sunday, October 19, could be held.
CHP CONGRESS WILL BE HELD
In response, YSK convened at 14:00. YSK Deputy Chairman Ekrem Özübek announced that the request to suspend the CHP's 39th Ordinary Istanbul Provincial Congress, which will be held tomorrow, was rejected.
REQUEST FOR THE SUSPENSION OF CHP'S EXTRAORDINARY ISTANBUL PROVINCIAL CONGRESS
Last month, the Istanbul 45th Civil Court of First Instance had also written to the Istanbul Governorship and the Sarıyer 1st District Election Board, requesting the "suspension of activities" regarding the Istanbul Extraordinary Provincial Congress. The issue was again brought to the YSK's agenda, and on September 24, YSK decided to continue the CHP Istanbul Provincial Presidency Extraordinary Congress.
On October 3, YSK ruled that the necessary procedures regarding the CHP Istanbul 39th Ordinary Provincial Congress elections should be carried out by the Bahçelievler 1st District Election Board Presidency, following a request for an opinion on whether it was possible for the Bahçelievler 1st District Election Board Presidency to conduct the elections.
