Justice Minister Akın Gürlek, who hosted a delegation led by the Speaker of the National Assembly of Slovenia, Klakocar Zupancic, made noteworthy statements regarding the 12th Judicial Package. Minister Gürlek stated, "Our work on the 12th Judicial Package is ongoing. At the same time, we are considering making some changes to the Turkish Penal Code and the enforcement system in order to strengthen criminal justice and make the enforcement and trial processes more effective."
Minister of Justice Akın Gürlek met with a delegation headed by the President of the Slovenian National Assembly, Klakocar Zupancic, at the Ministry.
Speaking here, Gürlek stated that they are in constructive cooperation with Slovenia in political, economic, and cultural fields, and mentioned that the friendly ties between Turkey and Slovenia are increasing day by day.
"WE ARE CONSIDERING MAKING SOME CHANGES IN THE TURKISH PENAL CODE AND THE EXECUTION SYSTEM"
Gürlek, who conveyed that cooperation in the field of justice creates an important and complementary dimension in the relations between the two countries, emphasized that they attach great importance to the rule of law, mutual experience sharing in the judiciary, judicial assistance, and the development of cooperation within the framework of international agreements.
Describing some recent reforms in the legal system, Gürlek said, "Under the leadership of our President, we have made very important reforms in the field of justice by announcing the 4th Judicial Reform Strategy Document between 2025 and 2029. In this context, we presented the 11th Judicial Package to the Parliament in December 2025, and our work on the 12th Judicial Package is ongoing. At the same time, we are considering making some changes in the Turkish Penal Code and the execution system to strengthen criminal justice and make the execution and trial processes more effective." he said.
"WE ALWAYS CONTINUE TO SUPPORT THE JUST STRUGGLE OF THE PALESTINIAN PEOPLE AND STAND BY THE PALESTINIANS"
Gürlek continued: "In this context, we find it very valuable that our country recognizes the State of Palestine as a result of the voting in the General Assembly of the Slovenian National Assembly. Especially, our President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has expressed his satisfaction with Slovenia's decision to recognize the State of Palestine in every environment. As Turkey, we continue to defend human dignity, peace, and justice under all circumstances. We always continue to support the just struggle of the Palestinian people and stand by the Palestinians. I reiterate our desire to further develop the friendship and judicial cooperation between the two countries day by day. We are open to any agreement regarding cooperation in the judicial field and to developing our relations." Gürlek expressed his gratitude to Klakocar Zupancic for his visit.
"AS A COUNTRY AND NATION, WE STAND FOR THE TERRITORIAL INTEGRITY OF PALESTINE"
The President of the Slovenian National Assembly, Klakocar Zupancic, also expressed his pleasure for hosting Minister Gürlek. He stated that the recognition of Palestine as an independent state in the country was a decision passed by voting in the Slovenian National Assembly, and that this decision is generally made by the government in the European Union and other European countries. Klakocar Zupancic said, "However, as a country and nation, we are already in favor of the territorial integrity of Palestine. In this context, it is extremely exemplary for our National Assembly to make a decision in this direction."
