U.S. President Donald Trump set a deadline for an agreement in the ongoing nuclear negotiations with Iran. Stating, "I think an agreement can be reached next month," Trump did not shy away from threatening Iran, saying, "If we cannot reach an agreement, we will move to the second phase, and this phase will be very difficult for them."
US President Trump evaluated the headlines and current situation regarding negotiations with Iran during a press conference held at the White House.
"IF WE CANNOT REACH AN AGREEMENT, WE WILL MOVE TO THE SECOND STAGE"
Trump, who stated that they wanted to reach an agreement with Iran and that they had also evaluated the current situation in yesterday's meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, emphasized that he wanted to see where the process was heading.
Trump said, "We must make a deal with Iran, otherwise it will be very traumatic for them, I do not want that to happen, we must make a deal with them," indicating that failing to reach an agreement with Iran would have "bad consequences" for the Tehran administration.
Trump emphasized that any potential agreement with Iran should be a "fair and good agreement" for the US, stating, "If we cannot reach an agreement, we will move to the second stage, and this stage will be very difficult for them, I am not pursuing that."
HE GAVE A DATE
In response to a question about how long the meeting schedule with Tehran would last, Trump said, "I think an agreement can be reached next month," noting that he could meet with the Iranians as much as he wanted and that the final decision was his own.
HE DISCUSSED IRAN WITH NETANYAHU: NO RESULT WAS REACHED EXCEPT FOR MY INSISTENCE
After meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu at the White House yesterday, Trump stated that he was insistent on continuing discussions with Iran.
In a statement he made on social media after the meeting, Trump said: "I just concluded my meeting with Prime Minister Netanyahu and his team. It was a very good meeting, and the tremendous relations between our countries continue. No definitive result was reached except for my insistence on continuing discussions with Iran and seeing whether an agreement can be reached. I informed the Prime Minister that my preference is for an agreement to be reached. If not, we will have to see what the outcome will be."
Referring to the 12-day conflicts between Iran and Israel last year, Trump said, "When Iran last decided not to make an agreement, they were hit by the Midnight Hammer Operation. That did not yield a good result for them. I hope they will act more reasonably this time and be responsible."
NETANYAHU WANTS THE AGREEMENT TO INCLUDE IRAN'S BALLISTIC MISSILE PROGRAM
Netanyahu, in a statement made while leaving the US after the meeting, said that any potential agreement with the Tehran administration should include Iran's ballistic missile program.
Netanyahu expressed that he clearly stated to Trump that if an agreement is reached, it should include components important for Israel and the entire international community. "It should not only address the nuclear issue but also include the ballistic missile program and Iran's proxy forces in the region," he said.
Expressing skepticism about the possibility of reaching any agreement with Iran, Netanyahu stated, "President Trump believes that the Iranians understand who they are dealing with."
NEGOTIATIONS BETWEEN IRAN AND THE US
The nuclear talks between Iran and the US, which were interrupted after the attacks by Israel and the US on Iran in June 2025, were resumed in Oman on February 6. Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Ismail Bakayi stated, "The negotiations in Muscat between Iran and the US ended with the parties agreeing to continue discussions." The negotiations took place during a period when tensions between Tehran and Washington were rising again, with Washington increasing its military buildup against Tehran in the region.
