Justice Minister Yılmaz Tunç spoke about the microphone that became a topic of discussion during the historical message of terrorist leader Abdullah Öcalan. Minister Tunç stated that a video was recorded during Öcalan's message and mentioned that the footage is in the possession of intelligence teams.
Justice Minister Yılmaz Tunç met with members of the press at an iftar dinner. Speaking about the discussions regarding the microphone that was reflected in the images while terrorist leader Abdullah Öcalan was delivering a historic message from İmralı, Minister Tunç made a statement that will attract attention.
"THE IMAGES ARE IN THE HANDS OF INTELLIGENCE"
Minister Tunç, who first shared with the public that a video was recorded while Öcalan was reading his message, stated, "The images are in the hands of the intelligence teams."
WILL THE RIGHT TO HOPE BE APPLIED TO ÖCALAN?
Responding to a question about whether the right to hope would be applied to terrorist leader Öcalan, Justice Minister Yılmaz Tunç said, "The Right to Hope is not a matter in our legislation, in our laws. The conditional release period for those sentenced to aggravated life imprisonment is 30 years. Again, the conditional release period for those sentenced to life imprisonment is 24 years. When these years are completed, if the person is well-behaved in prison, they will be released. If there are multiple aggravated life sentences, a different situation arises. There is a case of aggravated life imprisonment converted from the death penalty."
"THE ADDRESSEE IS NOT THE STATE, THE ADDRESSEE IS THE ORGANIZATION"
There is a special provision in the penal execution law stating that there is no conditional release for aggravated life sentences converted from the death penalty. Here, of course, the topic we will discuss now is the disbandment of terrorism, the laying down of arms. This is the issue we are currently focusing on. There is no condition, no request for conditional release or a right to hope in this call. Here, the terrorist organization's leader has made a call to the organization. The addressee is not the State, the addressee is the organization. Therefore, we will all see how the organization will evaluate this. If it is evaluated, terrorism will come to an end. If it is not evaluated, the fight against terrorism will continue," he said.
