Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Abdulkadir Uraloğlu stated in his speech at the "4th Global Road Safety Ministers Conference" held in Marrakech, Morocco, during the Ministers' Session, that road safety is not only a transportation issue but also a public health and sustainable development problem.

"WE HAVE BUILT 25 THOUSAND KILOMETERS OF DIVIDED ROADS IN 22 YEARS"

Providing information about the Ministry's work in the fields of safe infrastructure and intelligent transportation systems, Uraloğlu said, "In 22 years, we have built approximately 25 thousand kilometers of divided roads and reduced fatalities in accidents by 80%. We have created awareness in traffic by developing strict inspection and driver awareness programs. We have popularized digital tachographs in our country, which we have been using for 15 years, and we are the 4th largest producer in the world." he stated.

"ROAD SAFETY IS NOT A NATIONAL ISSUE, BUT A GLOBAL ONE"

Uraloğlu emphasized that Turkey has made progress in emergency response and post-accident care, stating that they are open to cooperation to share these experiences. He pointed out that there has been a significant decrease in the fatality rate in traffic accidents in Turkey over the last 20 years, and he noted; "However, our goal should be to reach zero fatalities. We need to achieve sustainable financing. We must fully utilize technology and digitalization. Infrastructure investments are very expensive. We need to make both them and the vehicles smarter, meaning we need to use artificial intelligence. Road safety is not a national issue, but a regional and global one. In this sense, we wholeheartedly support the Marrakech Declaration, and we will cooperate to the end. Let us not forget, every life is valuable, and every traffic accident is preventable."
