According to Forbes' data from January 1, 2026, the gap between the top and its followers in the global wealth ranking has reached a record level. As the new year begins, the wave of selling in technology stocks has reduced the wealth of 6 out of the 10 richest people in the world, while Elon Musk has become the biggest exception to this trend.
MUSK'S WEALTH ROSE TO 726 BILLION DOLLARS The head of Tesla and SpaceX, Musk, increased his wealth by 244 billion dollars in the last month of 2025, raising it to 726 billion dollars. Musk has pushed the top further away by reaching nearly three times the wealth of the second-ranked Google co-founder Larry Page. This leap for Musk was influenced by SpaceX's valuation rising from 400 billion dollars to 800 billion dollars and the Delaware Supreme Court reinstating previously canceled Tesla stock options.
