Complaints and requests coming to emergency services are astonishing... One such example was an order for a 'cake'. A citizen called the 112 Emergency Call Center to request a special cake for Valentine's Day. While the citizen expressed great happiness and wished for everyone to share in this joy, they ended up paying a fine of 1,882 TL.
The 112 Emergency Call Center employees operate on a 24/7 basis to respond urgently to incidents based on incoming reports. However, some citizens put the employees in quite a difficult position with unnecessary requests. One of them was a citizen who ordered a 'cake.'
On February 14, Valentine's Day, a citizen called the Muğla 112 Emergency Call Center to express that he was very happy with his girlfriend and wanted everyone to share in this happiness.
When the operator asked, "How can I help you?" the other party responded, "I don't know, can you bring a cake?" and the call was terminated due to an unfounded and unnecessary request.
1,882 TL FINE
A fine of 1,882 TL was imposed on the citizen who occupied the call center with unnecessary and unfounded calls, in accordance with the Misdemeanor Law.
Officials pointed out that emergency call centers are called for vital services such as health, security, and fire, and that unfounded, unnecessary calls can delay the response to important cases, adding that such calls could result in the loss of a life that needs to be saved in a real report.
Call center officials further reminded that "Love is beautiful, but 112 Emergency Call is a serious matter. 112 should not be called for some heart palpitations."
"YOU CAN BRING A CAKE"
The phone conversation that led to the citizen receiving a fine was as follows:
"-Emergency Call Center.
-Good evening, good luck.
-Thank you. What is your emergency?
-Am I speaking with Muğla 112?
-That's correct, sir. I'm listening to you.
-We are very happy with my girlfriend right now.
-Yes.
-Can 112 help us? Or can it contribute to our happiness?
-What kind of contribution do you expect from 112 to your happiness, sir?
-I don't know, maybe they can bring a cake, bring something. I mean, I don't know.
-Do you have an emergency, sir?
-No.
-Please do not occupy the 112 emergency line unnecessarily. I am terminating the call as you do not have an emergency."
