Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian stated that oil and natural gas alone are not sufficient for development, saying, "Turkey has no oil or gas. Japan and Korea also have none. They buy oil, but they have a better standard of living than us. We have oil and gas, but we are hungry and in distress. The problem lies with us."
Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian met with the region's activists, intellectuals, and scientists in the city of Urumiye, located in the West Azerbaijan province.
DEPENDENCE OF THE IRANIAN ECONOMY ON OIL Pezeshkian emphasized that the Iranian economy's dependence on oil needs to be reduced, stating, "We have managed and made money in this country until today. We have compensated for our deficiencies and inadequacies by selling gasoline, oil, and gas."
Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian "TURKEY HAS NO OIL AND GAS, BUT THEIR STANDARD OF LIVING IS HIGHER THAN OURS" Pezeshkian stated that oil and natural gas alone are not sufficient for development, saying, "Turkey has no oil and gas. Japan and Korea also have none. They buy oil, but they have a better standard of living than us. We have oil and gas, but we are hungry and in distress. The problem is with us. How is it that we sell oil and gas and our people are struggling to make ends meet? The fault is ours," he expressed.
"THERE IS NO DOUBT THAT GASOLINE PRICES NEED TO BE INCREASED" Pezeshkian expressed that there needs to be regulation in fuel prices, stating that hasty decisions cannot be made in this regard, "There is no doubt that gasoline prices need to be increased. Why should the price of gasoline be 1,500 tomans (75 cents) per liter? Even water is not priced this way. However, intervening in gasoline prices is not easy. Thousands of variables need to be considered, planning needs to be done, and solutions need to be produced," he said.
