In an incident that occurred on the evening of March 7, 2025, in the Karatay district of Konya, a 2-year-old child lost their life due to a dog attack. Following the incident, there has been significant backlash against Karatay Mayor Hasan Kılca, who established "feeding" stations in the neighborhood.
Rana El Selci, a 2-year-old Syrian national, lost her life after being attacked by 10 street dogs in Konya. The Konya Governorship stated in a press release regarding the incident, "A comprehensive investigation is ongoing."
The incident occurred around 18:30 in the Başak Neighborhood of the central Karatay district on Şehit Erdal Özçelik Street. According to allegations, little Rana, who was visiting relatives with her family, was attacked by approximately 10 street dogs. The severely injured baby was taken to Konya City Hospital by her relatives. Unfortunately, the baby could not be saved despite all the medical interventions. An investigation into the incident is ongoing.
REACTIONS ARE POURING IN: HE SHOULD BE ARRESTED
There is a strong backlash against Karatay Mayor Hasan Kılca, who set up "feeding" stations in the neighborhood after the incident. Thousands of tweets were posted in a short time on social media with the hashtag #HasanKılcaShouldBeArrested.
AS REACTIONS INCREASE, HE MADE A CLICHÉ STATEMENT
After the reactions grew on social media, Karatay Mayor Hasan Kılca, who tried to downplay the incident with a cliché statement, said, "I want to especially emphasize that we will never stop as a city until we completely solve this problem. We are continuing our collection efforts without slowing down. We are working in the field with all our strength and will continue to do so. I pray for mercy from God for the child we lost. May God give patience to her family. Our condolences."
