The President of the Radio and Television Supreme Council (RTÜK), Ebubekir Şahin, announced that they have initiated new studies on the social effects of street interviews. In this context, he stated that they would take steps to prevent the broadcasting of street interviews on news channels. He also emphasized the need to prevent misinformation related to media and social media content.

MEDIA SUMMIT FROM RTÜK

The 'Strong Media, Conscious Society Summit', organized under the auspices of RTÜK in collaboration with Ankara University, Ankara Science University, Başkent University, the Turkish Youth Clubs Confederation, and the Istanbul Family Foundation, began on its second day at the Ankara Bilkent Hotel and Conference Hall. The event, which brings together the media world with academia, civil society, and public institutions, was attended by RTÜK President Şahin, as well as the Minister of Family and Social Services Mahinur Özdemir Göktaş, the Minister of National Education Yusuf Tekin, and university rectors.

RTÜK HAS TAKEN ACTION REGARDING STREET INTERVIEWS

In his opening speech at the summit, RTÜK President Şahin expressed his confidence that this summit would not only build today but also tomorrow, stating, "This summit has a critical place as an educator of social values, but when misused, it can trigger division, polarization, and information pollution. At this point, the responsibility of broadcasters, content producers, and us is great. Social media content is not a scientific publishing activity. It is also a social characteristic, a violent activity. This two-day summit provides us with very valuable contributions as a platform we are directing our activities and dimensions towards," he said.

"WE HAVE STUDIES ON NOT BROADCASTING ON NEWS CHANNELS AND TELEVISION"

Shahin stated that studies conducted at the summit revealed an increase in themes that weaken family ties, noting that experts must pay maximum attention to this situation. Shahin said, "There is a need for community-based areas regarding digital platforms. It has been observed that the language of news needs to be promoted. It has been emphasized that individual opinions in street interviews should not be generalized to society. As RTÜK, we have initiated a study on street interviews. We are also continuing our efforts to prevent these interviews from being broadcast on news channels and televisions. I would like to state that we are addressing both the administrative and legal aspects of this issue," he expressed.
