A drone attack by Russia targeted a university in the Ukrainian city of Kharkiv, resulting in the injury of four people. The attack occurred around 11:00 local time. The governor of Kharkiv condemned the attack, noting that it took place in a central area of the city during midday.
A drone attack attributed to Russia targeted a university in the central Ukrainian city of Kharkiv, injuring at least four people.
Footage shows a drone crashing into the Kharkiv National University of Pharmacy building, causing a large explosion. Amid the flames rising from the building, citizens passing by the scene are fleeing to safety.
The attack reportedly occurred around 11:00 local time, with four people injured, as stated by Kharkiv Mayor Ihor Terekhov.
Kharkiv Governor Oleh Syniehubov condemned the attack, stating, "This attack was carried out in broad daylight, in an area close to the city center."
Syniehubov added that the damaged facility was a completely civilian target and had "no connection to the military or defense industry."
The attack on the university came after Russian forces bombarded the city of Zaporizhzhia with rockets overnight, injuring 13 people, including two children.
As the war continues following Russia's full-scale invasion that has lasted for over three years, attacks on civilian areas in Ukraine and clashes along the nearly 1,000-kilometer front line are ongoing. Despite U.S.-led peace efforts, a peace agreement has not been reached.
In the past two weeks, Zelensky reported via Telegram that Russia has carried out over 3,500 drone strikes, more than 2,500 powerful glide bomb attacks, and approximately 200 missile strikes on targets within Ukraine.
Glide bombs and drone swarms pose a significant challenge for Ukrainian defense. Although glide bombs are not very precise, they leave large craters, and Ukraine has no effective countermeasures against them.
Recently, Russian drones have also landed on Polish territory, and NATO has strengthened air defenses in Europe amid rising tensions with Moscow.
Zelensky stated in a Telegram message, "It is time for Europe to ensure the joint protection of our skies with a multi-layered air defense system. All the necessary technologies are available for this. We need strong steps and decisions from all our partners in terms of investments and will."
In Zaporizhzhia, Russian bombardment targeted more than 20 apartment buildings, causing fires. Regional head Ivan Fedorov stated in a national television address, "We had not yet recovered from the attacks on August 30. We were just repairing those buildings and windows, but the enemy has added new tasks for our municipal workers."
In response, Ukraine has developed its own long-range drones and targeted critical facilities within Russia. Recent attacks included oil refineries, warehouses, and terminals.
Russia remains the world's second-largest oil exporter, but seasonal demand increases and continuous attacks by Ukrainian drones have led to gasoline shortages in recent weeks.
On Tuesday, the Ukrainian General Staff announced that the armed forces had carried out a nighttime attack on an oil refinery in the Saratov region of western Russia.
The General Staff reported explosions and fires at the facility on its Facebook page.
