RUSSIA STRIKES KYIV Russia continues its attacks on Ukraine. The Russian army carried out a nighttime attack on Ukraine's capital, Kyiv. Timur Tkachenko, the head of the Kyiv City Military Administration, stated that four people lost their lives and 22 were injured. Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky, in his statement, said, "All necessary services have been mobilized. Damage occurred in 20 residences. A second attack was carried out on one of the residences. This attack took place while the first response teams were providing assistance after the initial strike." Zelensky noted that in addition to civilian infrastructure and energy facilities, the building of the Qatari Embassy was also damaged in the drone attack, stating, "Qatar is a country that has made great efforts to mediate for the release of prisoners of war and civilians held in Russian prisons."
Zelensky reported that in the attacks carried out by Russia throughout the night, 242 drones, 13 ballistic missiles, one Oreşnik medium-range ballistic missile, and 22 cruise missiles were used. Zelensky emphasized, "A clear response is needed from the world, especially from the USA, which sends signals that Russia truly pays attention to. Russia must receive signals that focusing on diplomacy is its obligation and must face the consequences every time it focuses on murders and infrastructure destruction. Today's attack strongly reminds all our partners that supporting Ukraine's air defense is a permanent priority."
SECOND ATTACK WITH OREŞNIK MISSILE The Russian army attacked the western Ukrainian city of Lviv with a medium-range, hypersonic Oreşnik missile. This was the second attack in which Russia used the Oreşnik missile system.
The Russian Ministry of Defense issued a statement regarding the attacks on Ukraine during the night.
The statement said, "In response to the terrorist attack carried out by the Kyiv regime on the residence of the President of Russia in the Novgorod region on the night of December 29, the Russian Armed Forces launched a large-scale attack on critical facilities in Ukrainian territory using high-precision long-range land and sea weapons, including the Oreşnik mobile ground-based medium-range missile system, as well as attack drones. All designated targets were hit. The production facilities of the drones used in the (terrorist) attack on Russia and the energy infrastructure enterprises supporting the Ukrainian defense industry were damaged. No terrorist act carried out by the guilty regime in Ukraine will go unanswered."
ATTACKED LVIV WITH OREŞNIK MISSILE The Russian army attacked the western Ukrainian city of Lviv with a medium-range hypersonic Oreşnik missile. While the target of the attack is unknown, the moments were captured on camera second by second. This was the second attack in which the Oreşnik missile system was used. The Russian army had first used the missile, capable of carrying a nuclear warhead, to strike the city of Dnipro in November 2024.
Russian President Vladimir Putin had stated that it was impossible to intercept the medium-range Oreşnik missile and that an attack with the missile could be as destructive as a nuclear attack.

A written statement from the Ukrainian electricity transmission system operator "Ukrenergo" shared information about the issues in the energy system caused by the recent airstrike carried out by the Russian army.
The statement indicated that Russia primarily targeted the capital Kyiv and its region, stating, "This disaster (attack) completely or partially cut off electricity to more than 1,000 settlements."
The statement noted that emergency electricity cuts were being implemented across the country, saying, "Due to the severe situation in the electricity system caused by the Russian bombardment, emergency cuts were implemented in several regions this morning."
The statement emphasized that electricity would need to be used sparingly throughout the day, stating, "In the evening and night hours, the enemy attacked the energy infrastructure in various regions. As a result, this morning, a significant number of subscribers in the capital and its region were left without electricity."
Search and rescue operations in Kyiv CALL FROM THE MAYOR: "LEAVE KYIV" Kyiv Mayor Vitaliy Klitschko shared the latest situation in the city on his social media account after the airstrike.
Klitschko stated that as a result of the attack on Kyiv, there were issues with water, electricity, and heating in the capital, saying, "Half of the apartments in Kyiv, about 6,000, are currently without heating due to damage caused by enemy attacks on critical infrastructure."
There are also disruptions in water supply in the city.
Klychko emphasized that they are making efforts to provide electricity to critical infrastructures such as hospitals as soon as possible, stating, "The combined attack on Kyiv last night was the most painful for the capital's critical infrastructure facilities."
Pointing out that cold weather is expected in the coming days, Klychko said, "I advise those living in the capital who have the opportunity to temporarily leave the city to go to places where alternative energy and heating sources are available."
"LVIV CITY WAS HIT BY A BALLISTIC MISSILE ATTACK FOR THE FIRST TIME IN ITS HISTORY" Lviv Mayor Andriy Sadoviy also recalled in a statement on his social media account that the Russian army launched an attack on Lviv's critical infrastructure with the "Oreşnik" hypersonic medium-range ballistic missile.
Sadoviy reported that this was the first time such a system had been used to attack the city since the war, stating, "Lviv has been hit by a ballistic missile attack for the first time in its history. This is a new level of threat not only for Ukraine but also for the security of Europe. The city (Lviv) is located less than 70 kilometers from the European Union (EU) border. This is a clear signal to our international allies. Russia's war does not stop at any border."
Pointing out the characteristics of the Oreşnik missile launched at Lviv, Sadoviy stated, "The air target (Oreşnik) was moving along a ballistic trajectory at a speed of approximately 13,000 kilometers per hour, which is an extremely high speed."
Sadoviy noted that the attack occurred near the village of Rudno in Lviv, stating, "As a result of the missile attack, the automatic gas safety system was activated. For safety reasons, the gas supply of 376 subscribers located on several streets was temporarily halted."
