Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan provided information about the Agarak Border Control Point located on the Armenia-Iran border in a social media post. "BORDER CONTROL WILL ONLY BE CARRIED OUT BY ARMENIA"Pashinyan stated, "From today onwards, the border control at the Agarak border crossing point on the Armenia-Iran state border is being carried out solely by the officers of the Armenian Republic Border Guard Units. Until now, border control at the Agarak crossing point had been conducted by the officers of the Russian Federation Border Guard Units since Armenia's independence, and I would like to thank them for their services." WHAT HAPPENED?Russian Border Guards were responsible for the protection of the Armenia-Turkey and Armenia-Iran state borders under an agreement signed between Russia and Armenia in 1992. The Pashinyan administration announced on October 8 that the duties at the control point on the Armenia-Iran state border would be fully carried out by Armenian forces starting from January 1, 2025.
