After the 5.2 magnitude earthquake that occurred off the coast of Ayvacık district in Çanakkale, geoscientist Prof. Dr. Naci Görür made a statement, saying, "There was a frightening earthquake of 6.8 magnitude in this bay in 1944. The Marmara region and the northern Aegean generally accumulate stress."
AFAD announced that there is no negative situation following the earthquake that occurred off the coast of Ayvacık, Çanakkale, and that field scanning activities are ongoing.

"A 5.3 magnitude earthquake occurred in the Edremit Gulf, in the Aegean Sea, on the Edremit fault zone. This fault zone represents the southern branch of the North Anatolian fault zone. A scary earthquake of 6.8 magnitude occurred in this gulf in 1944. The Marmara region and Northern Aegean generally accumulate stress."
