THEY WERE DISMISSED FROM THEIR POSTS
Ahmet Mandal, Harun Avcu, and Asuman Sahar Koleri were charged with 'Depriving a person of their freedom by using force, threat, or deception', 'Qualified sexual abuse of a child', and 'Sexual assault by harassment', facing up to 37 years in prison; other defendants Ali Akkaş, M.K., B.K., and H.K. were also charged with 'Depriving a person of their freedom by using force, threat, or deception' and 'Qualified sexual abuse of a child'. As part of the administrative investigation conducted by the Ministry of National Education, the two school principals were dismissed from their posts.
RELEASE OF SCHOOL PRINCIPALS
In the 5th hearing of the case at the 9th Heavy Penal Court, where Ahmet Mandal, Harun Avcu, and Asuman Sahar Koleri were being tried in detention, a decision was made. Ahmet Mandal was sentenced to 22 years in prison for 'Sexual abuse' and his detention was ordered to continue. School principals Harun Avcu and Asuman Sahar Koleri were also sentenced to 8 years and 4 months in prison for 'Aiding sexual abuse' and were released. Other defendants, including Asuman Sahar Koleri's husband, M.K., B.K., and H.K. were acquitted, while Ahmet Mandal's partner Ali Akkaş was sentenced to 8 years and 4 months in prison.
THE CASE WAS APPEALED TO THE SUPREME COURT
Following the decision of the 9th Heavy Penal Court, the Konya Regional Court of Appeals upheld the same decision. The defendants and their lawyers appealed the decision to the Supreme Court. The 9th Criminal Chamber of the Supreme Court, after reviewing the case, upheld the local court's decision. The decision stated, "Considering the regulations in Articles 288 and 294 of Law No. 5271, and taking into account the cases of definite legal violations listed in Article 289 of the same law and the reasons stated in the appeal petitions, it was evaluated that the proceedings during the trial were conducted in accordance with the law and procedure, and it was understood that the claims and defenses raised at the stages were shown and discussed in the reasoned decision, thus no legal violation was found in the decisions. As a result of the appeal review, since no legal violation was seen, in accordance with Article 302/1 of Law No. 5271, it was unanimously decided to reject the appeals on the merits and to uphold the sentences," it was stated.
THEY RECEIVED SENTENCES
Accordingly, detained Ahmet Mandal was sentenced to 22 years in prison, and the school principals Harun Avcu and Asuman Sahar Koleri, who were released after being sentenced to 8 years and 4 months in prison, along with Ahmet Mandal's partner Ali Akkaş, who was sentenced to 8 years and 4 months in prison, were taken into custody and sent to prison.
