The elections held after the arrest of Hasan Akgün, the Mayor of Büyükçekmece, and the subsequent appointment of CHP member Ahmet Şahin as acting mayor, were won by the CHP candidate Hakan Çebi.
After the arrest of Büyükçekmece Mayor Hasan Akgün, a new election was held today at the municipality following the arrest and removal from office of Ahmet Şahin, who won the vice-presidency election.
HASAN AKGÜN AND HIS REPLACEMENT VICE MAYOR WERE ARRESTED
Büyükçekmece Mayor Hasan Akgün was detained in the fifth wave operation against the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality and was arrested on June 5. Ahmet Şahin from the CHP won the vice-mayor position with 22 votes on June 11. The candidate of the People's Alliance, Mustafa Yazıcı, received 12 votes. Ahmet Şahin was detained on July 5 as part of an investigation conducted based on the statements of Aziz İhsan Aktaş, who was released benefiting from 'effective remorse', and was arrested on July 8 on charges related to "financial crimes."
THE NEW ELECTION WAS WON BY CHP'S CANDIDATE
Following Şahin's removal from office by the decision of the Ministry of Interior, a new election was held today in the Büyükçekmece Municipal Council. In the election, the CHP's vice-mayor candidate Hakan Çebi and the People's Alliance's vice-mayor candidate Mustafa Yazıcı were nominated. In the second election, CHP's Hakan Çebi was elected as the Vice Mayor of Büyükçekmece.
TENSION DURING THE ELECTION
Meanwhile, tension arose during the election of the new vice mayor. Tension occurred while journalists were filming during the election process. A dispute broke out when it was noted that the district heads of the AK Party and MHP were present at the location where the press was located. The press members requested to be shown a place. Council members confronted each other, saying, "Why are you shouting?" and "Don't shout."
