A Boeing 777 aircraft operated by Singapore Airlines experienced severe turbulence during a London-Singapore flight. The plane made an emergency landing in Bangkok, resulting in the death of 1 passenger and injuries to 30 passengers.
One passenger died as a result of severe turbulence on a flight from London to Singapore.
The Boeing 777 aircraft operated by Singapore Airlines took off from the UK with 211 passengers and 18 crew members. However, the plane encountered severe turbulence due to extreme tropical storms upon entering the airspace. The aircraft was redirected to Suvarnabhumi International Airport in Bangkok and made an emergency landing.
30 PASSENGERS INJURED
The crew provided emergency assistance to the passengers on board. According to local media, one passenger died and approximately 30 passengers were injured. The nationality of the deceased has not been determined yet.
STATEMENT FROM THE AIRLINE
Singapore Airlines confirmed the emergency landing and the death of a passenger in a statement on social media. The statement said, "Singapore Airlines flight operating the London (Heathrow) - Singapore route on May 20, 2024, encountered severe turbulence during the journey. The aircraft was redirected to Bangkok and landed at 15:45 local time. Injuries occurred on the plane, and 1 person died. There were a total of 211 passengers and 18 crew members on board."
The airline expressed condolences to the family of the deceased and added, "Our priority is to provide all possible assistance to all passengers and crew on board. We are working with local authorities in Thailand to provide necessary medical assistance and sending a team to Bangkok to provide additional support as needed."
