Sibel Nerkiz, who went to the hospital when she fell ill in Bursa, and her mother Gülbahar Nerkiz, who claimed that the baby she gave birth to at home was stillborn and that she took the baby's body to the countryside to bury it, were taken into custody and arrested. The baby's father, Nerkiz's boyfriend H.Ö., was released under judicial control. The lifeless body of the baby, which was exhumed by the gendarmerie from the burial site, was sent to the Forensic Medicine Institute for an autopsy to determine whether it was born alive or stillborn.
Sibel Nerkiz, who lives with her family in the Mustafakemalpaşa district, allegedly became pregnant by her boyfriend H.Ö., with whom she has been in a relationship for 5 years. Sibel Nerkiz revealed her pregnancy, which she had hidden from her family, to her mother Gülbahar Nerkiz when her belly started to show, but kept it a secret from her father, whom she feared. On February 16, Sibel Nerkiz, who went to Mustafakemalpaşa State Hospital with complaints of bleeding, was advised to be hospitalized due to the risk of premature birth of her 32-week-old baby. Nerkiz, who rejected the offer, gave birth to a baby girl in the toilet of her home on February 26.
THE TRUTH CAME OUT WHEN SHE WENT TO THE DOCTOR On March 11, during a visit to the psychiatry outpatient clinic for an examination, Sibel Nerkiz, who was diagnosed with bipolar disorder, was referred to the Internal Medicine clinic due to suspected anemia. After tests revealed her hemoglobin level was very low, Sibel Nerkiz was hospitalized, where she tearfully stated that she had given birth prematurely in the toilet of her home. When asked about the whereabouts of her baby, Sibel Nerkiz did not respond, and she and her mother Gülbahar Nerkiz were taken into custody following the doctors' complaint to the hospital police. Based on Sibel Nerkiz's statement that her baby, which she claimed was stillborn, was buried by her mother, her boyfriend H.Ö. was also taken into custody.
Sibel Nerkiz "THROW IT IN THE TRASH OR BURY IT" In her statement to the police, Gülbahar Nerkiz claimed that she learned about her daughter's pregnancy during the birth, saying, "Sibel's baby girl was born, but there were no signs of life in the child. I asked her, 'What shall we do with the baby?' She replied, 'Throw it in the trash or bury it if you want.' Following that, I put the baby in a bag and buried it by the stream in Döllük Neighborhood the next day. I couldn't explain the situation to my husband because he has a heart condition," she said.
Sibel Nerkiz stated in her testimony that she told her mother about her pregnancy but did not inform her father out of fear, claiming that the baby was stillborn. H.Ö., who said he was friends with Sibel Nerkiz, claimed that he was not the father of the baby.
After their procedures at the police station, Sibel Nerkiz and her mother Gülbahar Nerkiz were referred to the courthouse and arrested, while H.Ö. was released under judicial control.
H.Ö. - Gülbahar Nerkiz THE CAUSE OF THE BABY'S DEATH WILL BE DETERMINED BY AUTOPSY As part of the investigation initiated by the Mustafakemalpaşa Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, gendarmerie teams, under the supervision of the prosecutor, exhumed the baby from where it was buried. To determine whether the baby girl was born alive or stillborn, the body was taken to the Bursa Forensic Medicine Institution's morgue for a funeral autopsy. The investigation into the incident is ongoing.
