In Madrid, the capital of Spain, a demonstration was held today to protest against Israel before the Real Madrid-Hapoel Tel Aviv match played in the 33rd week of the Basketball EuroLeague.
THE MATCH WAS PLAYED WITHOUT SPECTATORS
Following the views of the Spanish government and the Madrid police, a decision was made to play the Real Madrid-Hapoel Tel Aviv match without spectators, and a protest against Israel was held in front of the Movistar Arena sports hall.
Protesters carrying banners that read "You don't play with genocide" and Palestinian flags shouted anti-Israel slogans.
Protesters gathered at the call of leftist civil society organizations (CSOs) reacted to Israel's genocide in Gaza and its recent escalation of attacks in Lebanon, chanting "Free Palestine" and "Murderer Israel."
Spanish CSOs argued that "the participation of teams representing Israel in international sports competitions means using sports as a tool to whitewash a continuous occupation, apartheid, and extermination policy," and demanded that Israeli teams be prevented from playing their matches.
On the other hand, a group of protesters protested the permission given for the match between Real Madrid and Hapoel Tel Aviv by playing basketball among themselves outside the sports hall.
