Slovenia announced that all arms trade with Israel has been banned. Slovenia became the first European Union (EU) country to make this decision.

Slovenia continues to take steps against Israel due to the attacks on the Gaza Strip. The Slovenian government announced that all arms trade with Israel has been banned, becoming the first EU country to make this decision.

THEY HAVE BANNED ARMS TRADE WITH ISRAEL

In a statement made by the Slovenian government, it was stated, "Slovenia is the first European country to ban the import, export, and transit of arms with Israel."

The government reported that it acted independently due to the EU's inability to take concrete measures because of internal disagreements and divisions, highlighting that humanitarian aid is being deliberately obstructed in the Gaza Strip, leading to the deaths of people. The government emphasized that it is the duty of every responsible state to take action for Gaza.

The government also stated that it has not granted any permits for the export of military weapons and equipment to Israel since October 2023.

WHAT HAPPENED?

In recent weeks, Slovenia has again set a precedent among EU countries by declaring two Israeli far-right ministers as "undesirable persons." The Slovenian government banned the entry of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's key coalition partners, far-right Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich and National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir, by declaring them "undesirable persons." The government accused the far-right ministers of making statements that amount to genocide, promoting violence, and seriously violating the human rights of Palestinians.

On the other hand, in June 2024, the Slovenian parliament accepted a decree recognizing the state of Palestine, following Ireland, Norway, and Spain.
