As air temperatures noticeably drop across the country, a snowfall warning has been issued for many cities, including Istanbul, starting from tomorrow. In the megacity, snow accumulation is expected to reach 2-5 centimeters on Wednesday and 3-10 centimeters on Thursday. With temperatures expected to drop by 12 degrees, some flights at Sabiha Gökçen Airport in Istanbul have already been canceled for tomorrow and Thursday.
In many regions, temperatures exceeding seasonal norms will give way to cold weather. It is predicted that the air temperature will decrease significantly, especially in the northwestern regions, due to strong northern winds and a sudden drop in temperature, with a decrease of 4 to 10 degrees expected in the northern, inland, and western regions.
FLIGHTS ARE BEING CANCELED ONE BY ONE
There is a snowfall warning for 40 cities. In Istanbul, snowfall is expected to be effective starting from Wednesday. Measures are being taken in air traffic against the adverse weather conditions expected in Istanbul. In a statement from Sabiha Gökçen Airport, it was reported that 10% of flights would be canceled on Wednesday and Thursday.
Abdullah Macit, a meteorology expert at the Ministry of Environment, Urbanization, and Climate Change, stated that they expect the fog and haze phenomenon, which was effective in most parts of the country last week, to be particularly effective in all of the inland and eastern regions, noting that the fog will decrease with precipitation on Tuesday but will reappear by the weekend.
TEMPERATURES ARE DROPPING
Macit emphasized that mixed rain and snow are expected for Istanbul on Wednesday, stating, "We will see snowfall especially in the high areas of northern Istanbul. The temperature in Istanbul will be 11 degrees, and temperatures will drop to 5-6 degrees on Wednesday and Thursday."
ON THURSDAY, IT WILL REACH 10 CENTIMETERS
According to the statement from the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Disaster Coordination Center, the expected snowfall in Istanbul will begin on Wednesday. On Wednesday, the snow depth is expected to reach 2-5 centimeters, and on Thursday, it is expected to reach 3-10 centimeters.
