It added, "All of our schools in Istanbul where education is ongoing are earthquake-resistant."
The Istanbul Governorship made a statement regarding the claims that Sakarya Primary School in Ataşehir continued education despite not being earthquake-resistant. The governorship stated that the claims are unfounded and that both blocks of the school have been made earthquake-resistant.
"BOTH BLOCKS OF THE SCHOOL HAVE BEEN MADE EARTHQUAKE-RESISTANT"
The statement included the following remarks: "On Saturday, February 8, 2025, news and shares were made regarding the reopening of Sakarya Primary School in Ataşehir District despite not being earthquake-resistant. Sakarya Primary School consists of Blocks A and B. Block A was included in the strengthening program by the Istanbul Governorship in 2010 and has been made earthquake-resistant.
"BLOCK B HAS BEEN EVACUATED"
Block B has also been included in the strengthening program by the Istanbul Governorship and has been evacuated. Our students in the evacuated classrooms will continue their education in Block A of the school. Therefore, all our students receiving education at our school will continue their education in a dual education model at our school. The mobilization initiated to ensure that millions of our children in Istanbul continue their education in safer and more solid schools is ongoing. With billions of dollars of public resources spent, all our schools have been made earthquake-resistant either by being demolished and rebuilt or through strengthening.
"ALL OUR SCHOOLS IN ISTANBUL ARE EARTHQUAKE-RESISTANT"
It is evaluated by us that such news and shares are, at the very least, shallow approaches aimed at discrediting public investments for political motives, far from conscience. We would like to express with great pride and happiness to our nation that all our schools where education continues in Istanbul are earthquake-resistant. We continue to work with all our might to further raise the educational standards in our city with our new school projects. In these days when we better understand the value of the saying "Less talk, more work," we kindly ask the parents who entrust their children to us to be at ease in their hearts.
