The Venezuelan government claimed that the U.S. is preparing to send a nuclear submarine to the Caribbean Sea. Venezuelan Foreign Minister Yvan Gil stated, "The U.S. plans to send a missile cruiser, a fast attack nuclear submarine, and other warships next week."
Tensions are rising between Venezuela and the USA. It was claimed that the USA plans to send a nuclear submarine to the Caribbean Sea.
According to a report in the national press, Venezuelan Foreign Minister Yvan Gil shared a statement from the Venezuelan government on his Telegram account. The statement said, "The USA plans to send a missile cruiser, a fast attack nuclear submarine, and other warships next week."
In a statement made by Venezuela's Permanent Mission to the United Nations, it was emphasized that the US administration poses a serious threat to regional peace and security with "hostile actions and threats." According to the press, among the ships that the USA plans to send to the Caribbean are the missile cruiser USS Lake Erie and the fast attack nuclear submarine USS Newport News.
VENEZUELA HAS ALSO STARTED PREPARATIONS
Venezuelan Defense Minister Vladimir Padrino Lopez announced that larger-tonnage ships have been deployed in the Caribbean waters to combat drug trafficking as part of the "Catatumbo Lightning Operation," which foresees an increase in the number of soldiers sent to the Colombian border regions.
Lopez stated, "We will also have a significant deployment here with unmanned aerial vehicles to be used for different missions, service points for citizens, reconnaissance and surveillance points, waterway patrols to be conducted by Marines on all rivers, and naval patrols in Lake Maracaibo and the Gulf of Venezuela, along with larger-tonnage ships to be deployed in our northern territorial waters."
3 WARSHIPS BELONGING TO THE USA HAVE BEEN SENT TO THE CARIBBEAN
US President Donald Trump had previously issued an executive order to use the military more extensively and effectively under the pretext of combating Latin American drug cartels.
Two senior military officials stated to CNN that a decision was made to send 4,000 Marines to the region following Trump's order. On August 15, Trump also ordered the deployment of 3 warships to the waters off Venezuela.
President Nicolas Maduro stated regarding the USA's decision to send 3 warships to the Caribbean Sea near Venezuela, "No one should dare to touch Venezuelan territory."
