One of the important steps in the process of a terrorism-free Turkey, the "National Solidarity, Brotherhood, and Democracy Commission" is rapidly continuing its work. Numan Kurtulmuş, who announced that the commission's activities will conclude by the end of the year, stated, "It is probably not a coincidence that a white Toros was burned in front of the Parliament on the day the commission convened."
During the "Terror-Free Turkey" process, with the PKK terrorist organization's beginning to lay down arms, the National Solidarity, Brotherhood, and Democracy Commission was established in the Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM). In its 7th meeting held yesterday, the commission listened to the President of MIT, İbrahim Kalın, ministers, families of martyrs and veterans, and former TBMM presidents.
"THE BUSINESS WORLD AND UNIONS WILL ALSO BE HEARD"
The TBMM President Numan Kurtulmuş, who presided over the commission, made important statements regarding the process. Kurtulmuş stated, "In the upcoming period, representatives from the business world and unions will participate. We will invite the names proposed by the significant majority of the commission here."
"NOT A CONSTITUTION COMMISSION"
The statement continued: "This is not a commission that will prepare a constitution. No laws or constitutions will be prepared here. What can be done will be prepared and sent to the TBMM. The commission has significant representation power. Decisions in the commission need to be made with a 3/5 majority. It is desired to listen to everyone."
"IF NECESSARY, IT CAN BE EXTENDED BY TWO MONTHS"
We started this process with the families of martyrs. We listened to those who have been victimized here. Everyone expresses their thoughts here. Each speaker shares their personal views, which will be evaluated in the end. The decision we made immediately upon the establishment of the commission is to conclude the commission's work by December 31, 2025. If necessary, it can be extended by two months. It should be completed in the shortest possible time. There is no room for provocation in this process.
"WE WERE VERY EMOTIONAL ON THE DAY THE FAMILIES OF MARTYRS AND VETERANS ATTENDED"
We were very emotional during the session attended by the families of martyrs and veterans. A veteran friend took out his prosthetic eye and held it in his hand. He said, 'I am someone who has paid such a price; no mother should cry.' In the same session, a mother representing peace mothers said, 'We should bury not our children but the weapons in the ground.' It was one of the meaningful sessions for us.
'WHITE TOROS' STATEMENT
In the commission's work, there has been no request for autonomy, independence, a separate region, or Kurdish being an official language, not even the slightest. There was such an open provocation; one of our deputy friends made a post saying that topics not discussed in the commission were discussed item by item. This is unacceptable. It is an attempt to undermine this process.
Although it may seem like an ordinary judicial event, the burning of a white Toros in front of the Parliament on the day the commission will gather and start listening is certainly not a coincidence. Here, everyone is a member of the commission, proposals are coming, and the proposals will mature. But the decision will be made by the TBMM General Assembly. Commission members do not act with party priorities. Everyone will present their own proposal.
