CHP Deputy Başarır held a press conference at the Grand National Assembly of Turkey. Başarır made noteworthy statements about Minister Şimşek's minimum wage comment, the Sinan Ateş case, the events in Kayseri, and the refugee problem. REACTION TO MINISTER ŞİMŞEK'S MINIMUM WAGE STATEMENTBaşarır criticized Treasury and Finance Minister Mehmet Şimşek's statement that "We have the highest minimum wage among developing countries," saying, "No offense, but I will speak harshly. Shameless man. Come and live with 17,002 liras for a month. Do you go to the market in this country? Do you know the rent prices? Just recently, electricity bills increased by 38% and 30%. Do you know the inflation rates?" Başarır harshly criticized Şimşek with these words. "I WILL GIVE YOU 17,002 LIRAS, CAN YOU SURVIVE ALONE?"Başarır said, "If the minimum wage is high, then lower it. We call on you to increase the pensions and wages above the poverty line in July. Let these people not spend the months from July to January in misery. Shamelessly, the minister of this country comes out and says 'the minimum wage is high.' It is disgraceful. I send it to the attention of 85 million people. I call you; come, my house is empty here. I will give you 17,002 liras for a month, survive on that. Can you survive alone? This is shamelessness. This is heartlessness. This is recklessness," he said. "WE PROMISE TO SOLVE THE REFUGEE PROBLEM"CHP Deputy Group Chairman Ali Mahir Başarır invited citizens to reason regarding the events that started with the harassment of a 7-year-old girl by a Syrian national in Kayseri, saying, "As the CHP group, we invite our citizens to reason. We acknowledge that refugees are a major problem and that this problem must be solved, and we promise to solve it," he said. "EVERYONE KNOWS THAT THIS IS A POLITICAL MURDER"Başarır commented on the murder case of Sinan Ateş, the former President of the Idealist Hearths Education and Culture Foundation, who was killed in an armed attack in Ankara, saying, "First of all, let me say this; Sinan Ateş's wife and children had to come to the courtroom wearing bulletproof vests. This shows the point the country has reached. This is a matter of shame. When we look at what is being said and the statements of the defendants in the trial, it is being presented to the court and to Turkey as an ordinary murder. However, everyone knows that this is a political murder. We want the politicians and perpetrators behind the scenes, not the hitmen, to be tried and punished. We want them to be revealed," he said. "IT IS UNACCEPTABLE FOR OUR FLAGS TO BE ATTACKED"Başarır also commented on the events in Kayseri, saying, "After these events, we, as the CHP group, invite our citizens to reason. We acknowledge that refugees are a major problem and that this problem must be solved, and we promise to solve it. But we renew our call for reason. However, it is unacceptable for our flags to be systematically attacked by some dark hands and groups in northern Syria after these events," he said. "WE HAVEN'T SEEN ANYTHING LIKE THIS SINCE THE CYPRUS EVENTS"Ali Mahir Başarır said, "I don't remember seeing anything like this since the Cyprus events," and continued, "Who are you? When we criticize this group, when we say 'Don't feed them, don't stir up Syria, don't train them, don't empower them,' what did the President of this country, Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, say? He said, 'They are groups that have gathered with the spirit of the National Forces.' Mr. Erdoğan, the National Forces sacrificed their lives for the flag of this country. The groups you have nurtured have destroyed my flag. You should come out and be held accountable for this," he concluded.
