Following the call for "federation and self-determination" by the cleric Gazal Gazal, known for his ties to the ousted Baath regime in Syria and living abroad, protests organized in Latakia, Tartus, Homs, and Hama quickly turned violent. As a result of grenade attacks and assaults with stones and sticks on security forces, 3 people lost their lives, and more than 60 were injured. After the incidents, military units were deployed to the region.
After the call for protests by Syrian cleric Gazal Gazal, known for his proximity to the overthrown Baath regime, demanding "political federation and the right to self-determination," mass actions took place in some regions of Syria.
In the Ziraat Junction and Ezheri Junction of Latakia province, Amara Junction and Hospital Neighborhood Junction of Jableh district, Merice Junction of Kerdaha district, El-Kusur Junction of Baniyas district, Saadi Junction of Tartus district, and in the Misyaf district of Homs province, Wadi ez-Zeheb, Imam Ali bin Abu Talib Mosque Square, Zehra Neighborhood, and Wadi Uyun regions of Hama province, a large number of people gathered.
ATTACK ON SECURITY PERSONNEL
During the protests, where security forces took extensive precautions, slogans were chanted demanding federation, targeting the Damascus administration. In the Latakia and Jableh regions, some protesters attacked security personnel and vehicles that had taken heavy measures. In the city centers of Latakia and Homs, protesters occasionally clashed with opposing groups using stones and sticks, while security forces fired into the air in some places to separate the groups.
3 DEAD, 60 INJURED
The Tartus Governorate announced that an attack with grenades was carried out by unidentified individuals on the regional security unit in the El-Anaza area of Baniyas district, injuring 2 security personnel. The Latakia Health Directorate stated that as a result of the tensions in Latakia city, 3 people, including 1 security personnel, lost their lives, and 60 were injured.

Latakia Internal Security Commander Brigadier General Abdulaziz al-Ahmed stated that supporters of Syria's overthrown leader Bashar al-Assad targeted security forces during the protests, saying, "Our security forces have been subjected to attacks by terror groups linked to the overthrown regime." Al-Ahmed noted that many security personnel were injured as a result of these attacks and that vehicles belonging to the police and special task units were damaged.
ARMY UNITS SENT TO TARTUS AND LATAKIA
Meanwhile, the Syrian Ministry of Defense announced that army units had entered the cities of Latakia and Tartus to restore security in response to the increasing attacks by "illegal groups." The Syrian Ministry of Interior emphasized that targeting security forces is a serious crime under the law, stating that those involved in the incidents will be pursued and necessary legal actions will be initiated.
